Day 4 – Wednesday 31st

After a breakfast, the team was off to an Aldea visit, much like Tuesday. Then, the afternoon was filled with siestas and preparation for puppet shows and lessons for the kids. The evening was less structured time with the kids.

Stories from the Aldea (Village) visit:
The school was around a 45 minute drive from Hogar De Vida. Much of the drive was the same as a Tuesday but we turn right instead of left in a fork in the road to go to this aldea. We gave a hygiene presentation and a gospel presentation and presented them 2 soccer balls with the colors of the wordless book. The girls and ladies loved to have their hair washed and styled and especially loved to get pretty hair things put in it. They often sat and giggled, and we took their pictures to show them what it looked like. Some boys were eager to learn some English words, happily played soccer, and got their hair washed and cut. The kids listened well to the gospel presentation and were able to tell us what the colors represent.

Stories from Hogar De Vida:
We did a puppet show on stealing for the kids, and a skit based on Exodus 20:15 “You shall not steal.” We taught the kids a new song called “Walking in the Light of God” in English, Spanish, and Swahili, and they sang some songs for us. We love the kids and they enjoy having us to play with and love on them. They were totally engaged in watching the Jesus video in Spanish.

Abbott Medical Care loaned a handheld blood analyzer, called an ISTAT. We tried to utilize it on Monday's clinic but it would only give an analyzer error. Attempts were made to contact customer support via email and phone that night. We knew that we wouldn't get a reply in time for Tuesday clinic but maybe Saturday. Initially, the only contact was an out of office email from one of the customer service reps. Praise God our and your's prayers were answer with instructions on how to configure the analyzer. Saturday's clinic will be able to utilize the analyzer, specifically for pregnant women to gauge vitamins to improve the babies development.

Tomorrow and Friday, the entire team will be at the orphanage all day to work a couple concrete pavement projects and concentrated time of interaction with the kids.
